Consultas médicas gratuitas para jornaleros en el condado de Sonoma

Si padece alguna enfermedad, dolor o simplemente le gustaría tener una consulta médica, el Departamento de Salud del Condado de Sonoma, en conjunto con California Human Development y otras agencias locales organizan al menos 10 fechas para atender a trabajadores agrícolas e inmigrantes sin documentos.

Aunque no tenga cobertura médica, podrá acudir a cualquiera de los centros de salud temporales que estarán instalados en lugares como: Santa Rosa, Cloverdale, Cotati, Sonoma, Petaluma, Healdsburg y Windsor, de septiembre a noviembre de este 2016.

Stephan Betz, director del Departamento de Salud del Condado de Sonoma aseguró que quiere proveer a todos los habitantes del condado de Sonoma atención médica equitativa para el año 2020: “Equidad en el acceso a la salud significa para mí que, al igual que yo, cualquiera puede tener acceso a servicios de salud, que no haya una distinción entre un trabajador del campo y yo”, dijo frente a representantes de distintas organizaciones de servicios a hispanos en el Norte de la Bahía.

George Ortiz, uno de los fundadores de CHD, mencionó que el ingreso del trabajador agrícola apenas lo ayuda a lidiar con las necesidades básicas de su familia, y son quienes experimentan mayor disparidad en asuntos de salud en el condado de Sonoma.

Un estudio entre ambas organizaciones, el Departamento de Salud y CHD reveló en 2013 que sólo 30 por ciento de los jornaleros en la región tienen seguro médico, 44% reportó su estado de salud como precario y 15% tiene diabetes.

Free Medical Consultations for Agricultural Workers in Sonoma County

If you are currently feeling sick, experiencing pain or would simply like to get a medical consultation, the Health Department of Sonoma County, along with California Human Development and other local agencies are organizing at least 10 dates in which agricultural workers and undocumented immigrants can receive free medical aid.

Even if you don’t have health insurance, you will be able to attend the various temporary health centers located in cities likes; Santa Rosa, Cloverdale, Cotati, Sonoma, Petaluma, Healdsburg and Windsor, from September to November of 2016.

Stephan Betz, director of Sonoma County Health Department talks about  her desire to provide all Sonoma County residents equal health access by the year 2020. “For me, health access equity means everyone has access to health services. There is no distinction between a farm worker and someone like me,” said Betz in front of representatives of various Hispanics serving organizations in the North Bay.

Betz indicated that just like minors—who now have access to health insurance no matter their immigration status, thanks to new state law SB75--, she hopes the same will happen for adults through law SB 10, which only needs a federal extension of President Obama’s Affordable Health Care Act.
